HANDING
Locks with lever handles are handed, locks with knobs are not handed. To determine handing, stand on the outside of the door (ie. door to bathroom, you should be standing outside of the bathroom). If the hinge is on the right, it's a right handed door and you require a right handed lever. If the hinge is the on the left, order a left handed lever.
BACKSET
There are two sizes of backsets available, 2-3/8" and 2-3/4". The backset is the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the 2-1/8" bore hole. Dummy sets have no latch (working mechanism) and are surface mounted.
FUNCTIONS
Passage-This type of lever or knob is used mainly on interior doors such as bedroom doors or closets where locking them is not required.
Privacy-Used on bathroom doors and any other door that requires locking from the inside. A push button on the inside locks the door. A small hole on the outside will allow you to open the lock with a nail.
Dummy-These locks are used on French Doors, closet doors or other doors where a non-operating lever or knob is required. No latch is needed. They are surface mounted. Emtek dummies are sold as a pair and Schlage dummies are sold as each.
